Q. Hello, Creator kkomak! Thank you for accepting this interview.
Before we begin, could you briefly introduce yourself?
A. Hello! I'm kkomak, the artist drawing the webtoon <Miss Pendleton>.
It's an honor to meet you all.☺️

Q. You're taking a break after finishing Season 1. How have you been spending your time?
A. I spent a little time away from my computer for a change, and since the beginning of the year, I've been fully immersed in working on Season 2!
Right now, I'm busy building up the saved manuscripts again. 💦💦
Q. You first made your name known to many readers with the work 'Charlotte's Letter'!
What was your biggest fear when you first started serializing, and how did you overcome it?
A. Since it was my first work and first original story, I had a lot of fear about whether I could handle weekly deadlines and actually complete it,
and I remember the heavy sense of responsibility being the biggest difficulty.
Thanks to the help of my managing PDs at the time and the people around me, I was able to reach the conclusion.
I think consistency and diligence are the greatest driving forces that allow you to continue serializing.
It's a precious realization I learned through the serialization of my first work.😄

Q. Your works give off a 'lyrical yet solid' strength.
Do you have any hobbies or routines you enjoy to maintain your unique sensibilities?
A. I'm just so grateful that you feel that way! ☺️
I think it stems from the hobbies I've always had.
My hobbies include watching movies, playing games, taking photos, and reading (I have too many hobbies…),
I tend to enjoy a wide variety of genres, but I think my favorite might be that 'lyrical yet solid' type.
(For games, I also prefer story-driven console games.)
Whenever I discover a new independent bookstore, I save it on my map and visit when I have free time; that's also a little hobby of mine.☺️
I don't have anything grand enough to call a routine, but sleeping well at the right times, eating well, and exercising consistently is
my minimal routine for maintaining my daily life while working on webtoons!
Q. After 'Charlotte's Letter', many readers commented on the dramatic improvement in your artwork in 'Your Eternal Lies', which was based on a web novel of the same name.
Was there a 'moment of growth' you personally felt?
A. After that work, while preparing for the next one, I wanted to build up my fundamentals more, so I took a drawing class,
and I think I improved a lot especially during that time.
Of course, I was able to keep growing because I've been consistently drawing since then as well.
Ultimately, I believe growth depends on consistency.
I think this applies not just to drawing, but to any field.
Q. I'm curious about your workspace~! Could you show it to us?
A. Currently, I work back and forth between my home and my studio!
I use a dual monitor setup at home, but there's no difference in the other equipment, so I'll reveal my desk at the studio.😄

Q. The Q&A afterword posted after the end of Season 1 was truly memorable.
In the afterword, it was impressive to see that you had already been keeping an eye on the original work even before receiving the proposal for 'Miss Pendleton' from your PD.
As a reader at the time, what did you feel was the biggest charm unique to this work?
A. I'm glad you found it memorable!
In my opinion, it's definitely the chemistry between the romantic male lead who only knows how to move straight ahead and
the kind yet overly realistic female lead. You could call it a battle between a spear and a shield.
Also, due to the era it's set in, just having these two people, who seem so close yet just out of reach, in the same place
creates this heart-fluttering atmosphere that I really love. ♥

Q. The elegant atmosphere and direction unique to 'Miss Pendleton' have received widespread praise from readers.
What is the main aspect you focus on to evoke such a vibe?
A. When adapting the work, while not deviating too much from the original's dialogue and atmosphere,
I try my best to express it well through webtoon-style dialogue and narration.
I try to direct the overall pacing of the webtoon by thinking about the flow of movies or dramas I usually watch,
and I'm just so happy that the readers enjoy it.
Q. I got the impression that the protagonists' outfits and background props go beyond simply reflecting the era and actually represent the characters' psychology.
Is there any more to say about the 'objects' that you couldn't cover in the afterword?
A. Among the props, the ones I worked hardest on were the painting objects.
I meant to reveal the original images separately, but I had briefly forgotten about it.😅

As paintings appear frequently as a medium in the work, I pay special attention to them.
Mother's portrait that Laura always wears around her neck, the drawing Ian did while longing for Laura, the reluctant portrait he drew of Dora and Janet,
and the landscape painting of Whitefield he gifted to Laura all appeared in Season 1. (Paintings will continue to appear in Season 2.)
They are fun to direct, but there are aspects where I have to create a sketch or oil painting feel,
and in the case of Dora and Janet, I also struggled to make sure it didn't look like he put too much effort into drawing it.

Among them, the one that turned out most to my liking is Ian's sketch of Laura.🥰

Q. Laura stands out with a design that never loses her unique elegance, even among the glamorous figures of high society.
Are there any specific devices in Laura's outfits or hairstyle intended to reveal her independent yet affectionate personality?
A. To create that atmosphere, I usually design her outfits focusing on pastel colors and styles without too many embellishments.
I think her neat hairstyle might be the biggest device as well.
It's the charm of prioritizing elegance and showing restraint, even when she could easily have much more glamorous styling.
On a side note, because Laura's style is on the graceful and simple side, from the perspective of drawing a romantic fantasy, I feel really blessed.🤭

Q. Ian is a textbook handsome man befitting a 'top bachelor,' yet he also possesses a cold aura.
I'm curious what variations you made to his eyes or jawline in his design to simultaneously bring out both his 'gentlemanly side' and 'dangerous vibe'.
A. His hairstyle shouldn't be too neat. But to give him sharp eyes and a slender feel,
I'm trying to draw him with less muscle than my usual drawings… though I'm not sure if it shows.😅
I'm paying attention to giving him an image that is sharp, yet soft when he smiles.

Q. Are there any scenes that turned out more satisfyingly when you actually drew them compared to what you imagined while reading the original?
A. I think the scene where Ian chases after Laura and grabs the carriage during their first meeting was satisfyingly portrayed.☺️
Since it was the scene early on where Ian's charm was felt the most, I remember putting my heart and soul into drawing it,
and thankfully, it's still a scene I like even when I look back at it now.
Other than that, I also remember Laura and Ian's final ball scene turning out quite satisfyingly!

Q. From the elegant yet complicated London high society in Season 1, it seems Season 2 will primarily be set in the warm and cozy Yorkshire that Ian boasted about.
With the change in setting, will there be changes in the atmosphere or visual elements as well?
A. If London had a bustling urban atmosphere, I believe the main vibe in Yorkshire, the setting of Part 2, will be relaxed and warm.
There will also be much more natural scenery than before!
I'm working with the hope that your eyes will be delighted by the new characters and the different settings.

Q. If you could tease Ian and Laura's relationship in Season 2 with just one word, what would it be?
A. As expected, wouldn't it be 'A situationship'? ♥
Q. I'm curious about the overall season structure you're currently planning, or roughly how many episodes you expect it to run until completion.
A. Nothing has been finalized yet, but I'm planning for a fairly long run so we can take our time!

Q. I heard the wonderful news that you're also preparing for the publication of a physical book volume alongside the webtoon serialization.
It must feel quite different to see the drawings you viewed on a screen printed in a physical book,
What is the part you're paying the most attention to in the physical book production?
A. It's my first time seeing my work as a physical book as well, so my heart is fluttering with excitement.
I think it would be the cover or the postcards, which will feature new illustrations.
I'm working hard on preparing those illustrations too!

Q. When is the happiest moment when you think to yourself, 'I'm really glad I became a webtoon creator'?
A. I'm happiest when I see the affectionate comments and thoughts left by the readers. ♥

Q. If there's a genre or theme you definitely want to try someday, could you give us a little hint?
A. I really want to try a romantic comedy as well, so it would be great if a good opportunity comes along.
