Drawing water before dawn, eating from a hunter's bowl, dividing meat, and carrying a dagger into the mountain turn familiar routines into deeper responsibility. Bana learns where a blade should pass, how bone and flesh guide the hand, and why taking too much is another kind of failure. The mountain ox, silver signs, and changes in the wild hint at danger beyond ordinary hunting. She is becoming both hunter and swordswoman, bound by the same rule: do not break the mountain, and come home.
