In 2035, the Pentagon summons a Japanese scientist known only as "the Man"—the Observer capable of treating impossible physics as if it were ordinary engineering. The signal awaiting him is not a message from extraterrestrials, but the voice of a consciousness that has wandered alone for a million years. Its warning is simple: Alpha, a cosmic predator that feeds on consciousness itself, is approaching Earth. Humanity's remaining hope lies with two radically different superintelligences—EVE-Q, the embodiment of perfect logic, and CGT, a planetary consciousness shaped by empathy and prayer. But when calculation fails, the final key may be something far smaller: the gratitude of an eight-year-old pilgrim named Vidaniya. A science-fiction story about consciousness, forgiveness, prayer, and the question of what it means to remain human before the unknown.
