The Fate Beyond the Story
The empire that would ultimately be brought to its knees was the Achaemenid Persian Empire.
Its conqueror was a young king from Macedon—Alexander the Great.
The Historical End: The Moment an Empire Fell
The Rise of the Nemesis:
In 334 BCE, Alexander led a united Greek force across the Hellespont and launched a relentless invasion into Persian territory. His advance was swift, precise, and unstoppable, like a blade driven by destiny itself.
The Decisive Battle:
At the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BCE, the last Persian king, Darius III, suffered a crushing defeat. With that single battle, the foundations of the empire shattered, and the long reign of Persia drew to its close.
Flames of the Capital:
The magnificent imperial capital, Persepolis—symbol of Persia’s glory and power—was set ablaze by the Macedonian army. Palaces of gold and stone were consumed by fire, and centuries of splendor turned to ash beneath a foreign sky.
