あらすじ

A Prefectural High School in the Mountains of Gifu Deep in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, Prefectural A High School achieves the impossible: a miraculous berth at Koshien. With no standout players, the underdog baseball team’s triumph electrifies the town. The school scrambles to raise donations and prepare a cheering squad. The protagonist, Misuzu Watarai, is a girl with no interest in baseball. Through sweltering fundraising efforts and long bus rides to support the team, she begins to discover the meaning of cheering—and the bonds it creates. On the day of the Koshien match, the bus carrying the cheering squad is caught in a massive traffic jam and fails to arrive in time for the start. As they follow the game via radio, the students sing their school anthem from inside the bus, sending their thoughts and hopes toward the stadium. When they finally arrive, they witness a miracle: the game has entered extra innings, and from the supposedly empty Alps Stand, the sound of a trumpet echoes. In the final inning, Misuzu and her friend Tamae cheer until their voices give out. But the game ends with a double play. Under the blue sky, tears stream down Misuzu’s face as she gazes at the quiet, ivy-covered stadium—Koshien, sacred and still.
