After graduating from art school, Yuji Kanzaki moved to Kanazawa to work as a part-time elementary school teacher. Through a chance encounter, he meets a young man who shares his own name—Yuji Hayari—at the elderly painter's home. Hayari was a young man running an art dealership in Kanazawa. The story centers on a dispute over the ownership of paintings that arises between an elderly painter's mistress and his legal wife after his death. And then, Hayari enigmatic behavior and remarks gradually reveal the secret shared by the mistress and the elderly painter.
